Twenty One: why did GSN show it only once?

When GSN purchased the rights to show Twenty One, wasn't it expensive?  Would it have cost the same to show all episodes in a single day rather than showing them over time (like Greed).  Did they make a special deal on these episodes whereby they'd only get them cheap if they show them in a marathon?  I always wondered why GSN "blew the bank" and showed all Twenty One episodes once and only once and never did so again.   I TiVo'd the whole thing but I'm sure not too many people were willing to do that.

I assumed it was a gift to Phil Gurin in exchange for a third batch of Lingo eps.
